My Bondage and My Freedom

I have been reading the story "My Bondage and My Freedom", in Mr. King's english class. It is a story by Fredrick Douglass and talks about slavery. Fredrick Douglass explains how he was a slave and had barely any rights. He was a slave when he was young to the Auld Family. The mistress of the Auld's started teaching Douglass how to read. But when the master found out, it soonly ended. The master told the mistress that teaching a slave how to read, will make him useless. Once a slave learns what is out there, they start rebelling.
This story has taught me a lesson, that slavery was torture. What slaves went through to live was unnecessary. Did people that had slaves ever think about what they went through.. Did they wonder if they were the slaves how they would like it.. Those people thought it was necessary to have a slave. They never thought about what slavery really was. Slavery was unfair in many ways, and people need to understand that.
